New Cumberland Greenfest 2009

Thank you to all who participated and attended the First Annual New Cumberland Greenfest on Saturday, June 20. Through our vendors, special presentations, and displays, participants were able to learn how important it for everyone to take care of Mother Earth and our town of New Cumberland.

We would like to extend a special “Thank You” to our Premier Sponsors PNC Bank and Daflure. PNC Bank gave a wonderful presentation on banking green, and Daflure displayed solar panels as part of their photovoltaic systems.

The day was kicked off by a Proclamation from Mayor DJ Landis, proclaiming June 20 as “New Cumberland Goes Green Day.” Throughout the day children of all ages enjoyed having their photos taken with mascots Linky (PNC), Smiley Cookie (Eat N’ Park), Subway Man (Cedar Cliff Subway), and Dirty Dog (Dirty Dog Hauling). They also enjoyed reading books to the dogs from Therapy Dogs International and a special reading presentation from Floyd Stokes, also known as Super Reader.

Alpacas from Bent Pine Alpaca Farm were on hand for petting and learning more about their wool and goods, while hybrid cars were on display from L. B. Smith Ford. Plants were available for purchase from An Olde Towne Florist and Greenery. Live music and the sound system was provided throughout the day by The Local Beat.

Area restaurants featured entrées in the First Annual Food Expo. Eat N’ Park was declared the winner. Celebrity judges included State Representative Sheryl Delozier, Mary Landis, Vice President of Borough Council of New Cumberland and Channel 21 News Anchorman, Mike Parker.

Plans are already underway for next year’s New Cumberland Greenfest. Please visit the website www.ncgreenfest.com for photos from this years’ festival and upcoming details for next year’s event.
