The New Cumberland Town Band had its beginning in 1946 as the New Cumberland American Legion Post 143 Band. In the early 1950s the band became an independent, self-supporting organization. The Band is most active in the summer months and plays in New Cumberland and other Harrisburg area venues. The

Band also plays an annual Christmas Concert at Trinity United Methodist Church which is co-sponsored by the New Cumberland Olde Town Association. The band has been lead by Harold Yegley, Ken Sampson, Don MacCluskie, Larry Vittone, Don Shope, Dick Klinedinst, Pat Ciccarone, Earl T. Caton, Jr., Larry Grier, Donna J. Deaven, and our past conductor Tom Turnbull, Jr.

The Band ...
The Band includes musicians who range from teens to senior citizens, and is made up of approximately 50 music educators, business people, professionals, teachers, military band members, engineers and college students from New Cumberland and surrounding areas. It rehearses throughout the year in New Cumberland. For more information, contact Band President Howard Bink at 717-774-4339.


Our Leadership ...

The New Cumberland Town Band is  in the process of selecting a new Music director for its 2008 season. 

 


Donna J. Deaven, Assistant Conductor, earned undergraduate and masters degrees in music from West Chester University. She is also the conductor of the Keystone Concert Band and has served as the assistant conductor of the West Shore Symphony Orchestra.

Howard Bink, Band President, has performed as percussionist with the NCTB since 1967 and has served as president of the organization for many years.  Howard holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Clarion University of PA.  Howard has been very active in the local area musical scene and currently performs with the West Shore Symphony Orchestra, the Egerlander German Band, the Encores Big Band, and the Tunesters.

All donations contributed to the Friends of the New Cumberland Town Band Foundation may be tax deductible. Proceeds directly support the New Cumberland Town Band.

Volunteers who do not play an instrument, but are interested in helping the band in various capacities or roles, such as set-up, sound system technology and other tasks, are welcome and should contact the Band President for more information.

The New Cumberland Town Band has concert recordings available on CD for a donation of $15 or on cassette tape for $10. Pick up a recording at one of our concerts or please stop by the Parthemore Funeral Home in New Cumberland between 9:00am to 5:00pm for your copy.
